3 Simple Rules for 2009

An open letter to all my friends, customers and subscribers,

As 2008 comes to a close, I want to share 3 simple rules which has the potential to make 2009 your best year ever!

Rule #1: Focus
Focus. I believe this is the main “problem” for 99% of all Internet marketers and online business owners.

Every year (especially in 2008) – there will be many product launches. If you buy each and every product in 2009, I can almost guarantee you that you will be more broke at the end of 2009 than now.

Know what you want to achieve in 2009 and go for it. Buy ONLY what you need to achieve your goals, and ignore everything else!

For example, if your goal is to master adwords, then purchase only products related to adwords. Ignore everything else (eg. web2.0, article marketing, copy-writing, etc) until you’ve achieve your goals.

If your goal is to be a master copy writer, then buy only products related to copy-writing and ignore everything else.

Rule #2: Less is More
As the saying goes, “There are many ways to skin a cat” – likewise, there are many ways to make money online.

If you attempt to follow ALL the gurus’ advice and methods to make money online, you will end up confused and poorer at the end of 2009 as well.

What you need is a goal for 2009 (see Rule #1), keep your focus and follow 2 or 3 g urus that you respect and trust.

“Too many cook spoils the broth” :-)

Rule #3: Persevere!
My dad always tells me – “Son, Rome isn’t built in a day”

Likewise, you won’t get rich overnight. Persevere and give yourself at least 90 days to see results.

Rule #1 applies here. If you keep switching (i.e. jumping from one business model to another), you will not achieve anything.

Live your Dreams in 2009!

Wishing you much Success in 2009!

  11. Thank you Adrian and best wishes to you and your family in 2009!

Managing time and goals is so important yet can be so easily put on a back burner by the “necessities” of the moment.

When the pressures of the new year grow strong I will refer back to your post as a reminder to stay on course.

2009 will offer many challenges and many opportunities and may God bless me with the wisdom to follow the best course.

  12. As someone who tends to get scattered, I completely agree that focus is #1. The way I am handling it nowadays is to make specific lists of what I am wanting to get done, chunked down into little bites.

  17. Adrian, your comments are right on target. After watching you for the past several years, I know that focus is the secret of your own extended success in this very changeable industry.

It’s important also to remember that rules one, two and three all boil down to rule number one – focus.

I heard it put another way recently. Motivation is remembering what you want (in other words, staying focused long-term).

From our house – best wishes for you and your family in this coming year.

Cheers from warm and smiling Thailand,

  21. Hi Everyone,

Sorry for ‘absense’ after I made this post … no, I didn’t party into the night to usher in the new year ;-)

Instead, we (my family) spent a quiet evening together thanking God for His goodness and mercies throughout 2008 and for providing for all our needs.

We told our kids some of the things that are happening around the world – the war in the middle east, the hunger faced by children in different part of the world, etc – and that they should always be grateful for what they have!

    ——————

Thanks again for your warm wishes and kind words … I appreciate it!

    Wishing all of us a

    “Wonderful New Year!”

    Cheers,
    Adrian

Secondly – thanks bundles for running that special on your products a while ago.

Thirdly – focus, simplicity and perseverence
    Yep!

Fourthly – if I may, I’d like to add – be valuable to someone.

After all – it is the exchange of value between people that creates income.
