You don’t need backlinks …

Ok, ok … what I mean is, you don’t need hundreds of thousands of backlinks to your sites in order to rank well.

I’m sure you’ve seen what all the “seo gurus” say – if you want your pages to rank well for a search term/phrase, you need to have thousands of backlinks to that page.

Is it true? Well, of course – if you have thousands of backlinks (with proper anchor text) to your pages, they will rank well for that term/phrase.

But consider the work and effort and money you need in order to get those kind of backlinks.

However, there is a more excellent way – where you don’t need thousands of backlinks.

Dr. Andy Williams, a well respected and trusted SEO guru says that you only need some backlinks from relevant authority sites … AND well themed pages with quality content.

Here’s why.

Google is placing more importance on the “On page factors” (i.e. the words and synonyms on your webpages) now.
Reason being – backlinks can be easily gamed. I’m sure you’ve seen all those automated tools and software which will churn out thousands and thousands of backlinks for you in a day – spammy links from spammy content from spammy web 2.0 sites.
Google’s goal is to find and display the best, most relevant pages for any search term for the searcher – an on-going battle against spammers who flood the web with poor content and spammy backlinks.
While a spammer can easily purchase more backlinks, a spammer won’t create good quality content (too much work for a spammer).

That’s the reason why Google is placing more importance on the actual content of your pages (i.e. the “On-page” factors). When someone searches for “astigmatism”, Google wants to display the best relevant pages to the user – not some spammy pages that has thousands of backlinks to them.

In this special 39 page report, Dr. Andy Williams shows you the evidence that themeing is alive and kicking, and that writing well-themed content should be one of your top priorities as you build your own sites.

Right click on the image on the left and select “save”

It will help you rank better for your chosen phrase, and even help you rank for hundreds of long-tail phrases you hadn’t even considered!

Here’s what Michael Campbell, one of the most respected SEO guru says:
“If you can nail your on-page factors, you can get top search engine rankings with far fewer incoming links. But if you don’t get your on-page factors right, all the links in the world won’t help with your rankings. That’s why I’ve been theming every page since 1997.”

    Hi Adrian,

It’s interesting that not-so-many years ago we were saying that Google trusted links because on-page content could be manipulated so easily. In fact, this was why Google “won” the search engine war against Infoseek and Altavista… its algo was more spam-resistant due to the emphasis on links.

I think that now you need both factors… good, themed, content and some relevant links. :)

    Hi Adrian,

Finally someone telling it the way it is – that we don’t need to blast a gazillion links spammed all over the place.

And yes, I’ll second Neil’s comment – if anything ow it’s about the balance, not just one single strategy that gets the results.
